Case study for reference

It's interesting to note how this site (New World Encyclopedia) explains the origin of the pages (from Wikipedia). See the section "Free Online Encyclopedia" on this page:

Here is the paragraph that is most interesting:

As what is called a Wikipedia fork, in keeping with the terms of the CC-by-sa license, the article version of each document imported from Wikipedia is documented, rigorously cited, and hyperlinked to the Wikipedia article so that a complete history of its construction remains available. Articles not initially obtained from Wikipedia have copyrights or licenses based on their particular situation.

Here is a sample page from the site:

This is just noted for reference and comparison. We don't need to do what they do. It is mainly the key paragraph above that may be useful. - Dorje108 (talk) 14:58, 1 July 2018 (UTC)

Internal attribution (our content)

There are two templates for content that is developed on this site:

This article is developed by our editors. Our team icon 75px.png

Attribute Encyclopedia

Our content is available under CC by SA 3.0 - Creative Commons Share Alike unless otherwise noted.

This means you can use it as you like, even commercially, and can modify it as well, but you must attribute us. This includes material that we originally got from Wikipedia but edited and developed further here. You need to attribute our encyclopedia for the work we did here.

Template to attribute us from another wiki

You can copy this template to another wiki to use to attribute our content.

{{Attribute Encyclopedia of Buddhsim}}

which renders as:

This article uses material from EOB:Project Templates for attribution on the Encyclopedia of Buddhism (view authors). License under CC BY-SA 3.0. Encyclopedia Of Buddhism logo

Some pages use other licenses

Note - some pages are released under other licenses. For instance material from Rigpa wiki can't be used commercially without additional permission from them. The material from Access to Insight can be used commercially.

Some blog posts are licensed under NC ND which means you can't modify them but have to copy the article in its entirety (apart of course for quotes covered by fair use).

Also when our content is a straight copy of a page at Rigpa or Access to Insight, it may be more appropriate to use them as the source, not us (example, Angulimala's encounter with the Buddha - verses from the Theragatha)

Please be sure to use the appropriate license for the page. Any questions do contact use, see EOB:About
