Twenty-one sets of undefiled qualities (T. zag pa med pa'i chos sde tshan nyer gcig) are enlightened qualities of the buddha which are enumerated in the Abhisamayalankara.[1] These sets of qualities are also presented in Mipham Rinpoche's Khenjuk and other texts.[2]

The twenty-one sets are:[1][2][3][4]

  1. Thirty-seven factors of enlightenment (bodhipākṣikadharma)
In this context, these factors have been perfected and transformed into their fruition.[5]
  2. Four immeasurables (apramāṇa)
In this context, these factors have been perfected, hence they are unlimited in their extent.[5]
  3. Eight liberations (aṣṭavimokṣa; T. rnam par thar pa brgyad)
In this context, 'liberation' is understood as a state of mind totally divested of the obscurations that block [subsequent realizations].[6]
  4. Nine states of successive abiding (T. mthar gyis gnas pa'i snyoms 'jug dgu)
  5. Eight spheres of subjugation (aṣṭābhibhāvāyatana; T. zil gyis gnon pa'i skye mched brgyad)
  6. Ten limitless ayatanas (daśakṛtsnāyatana; T. ཟད་པར་གྱི་སྐྱེ་མཆེད་བཅུ་)
  7. Non-arising of destructive emotions (asaṃkliṣṭa; T. nyon mongs med pa)
  8. Knowledge from aspiration (praṇidhi jñāna; T. smon nas mkhyen pa)
  9. Six supercognitions (ṣaḍ abhijñā; T. mngon par shes pa drug)
  10. Four perfect knowledges (catuḥpratisaṃvid; T. so so yang dag par rig pa bzhi)
  11. Four complete purities (T. rnam pa thams cad dag pa bzhi)
  12. Ten masteries (daśavaśitā; T. dbang bcu)
  13. Ten powers (daśabala; T. stobs bcu)
  14. Four fearlessnesses (catur vaiśāradya; T. mi 'jig pa bzhi)
  15. Eighteen unshared attributes (āveṇika-dharma; T. chos ma 'dres pa bco brgyad)
  16. Three types of unguarded actions (trī arakṣya; T. bsrung ba med pa)
  17. Three types of mindfulness (T. dran pa nye bar bzhag pa gsum)
  18. Absence of forgetfulness (asaṃpramoṣatā; T. bsnyel ba mi mnga' ba)
  19. Complete elimination of habitual tendencies (vāsanā-samudghāta; T. bag chags yang dag par bcom pa)
